Borland takes the capital singles title

Latest success in a great season for youngster

- Jim Mitchell

William Borland continued his incredible run of results as he scored victory in the Edinburgh Darts Association Singles Grand Prix.

William eased to the title with a 6-2 victory over Andrew Davidson in the final, having grabbed a 5-0 clean sweep in the previous round and dropped just five legs throughout the entire competition.

It’s the latest success in a terrific season for the youngster who has a bright future in the game ahead of him.

In local league play, there was plenty going on in the Bathgate and District Darts League on Friday night as the season approaches the final stages.

The title is now safely in the hands of the defending champions, the Bentswood Inn from Stoneyburn after they scored an 8-1 triumph over Corrie Bar.

While first place is wrappedup, there needs to be a play-off to determine who will be runners-up as Lammies Bar 2 and Cross Tavern are level on points with both teams winning last week.

Lammies 2 s c o red a comprehensive clean-sweep 9-0 win over Lammies Bar 1 while Cross Tavern versus Coppies Bar went right down to the wire with the team from Whitburn prevailing 5-4.

The two sides will face each other at a neutral venue on April 14.

Old Wine scored a 6-3 victory against Masonic in the remaining fixture.

The West Calder and District Darts League returned on Monday night with three players firing in maximum 180s on a high-scoring night.

Borland, coming straight off his Edinburgh Grand Prix success, nailed a 180 along with terrific 16 and 17-dart legs, while Loganlea Colliers’ John Brogan and Sandy Coulter of the Cawburn Highlanders also hit three treble-20.

William Harraughty’s 15 dart leg was the best of the evening.
