Tough week for the Wolves

-

It wasn’t the best of weeks for the West Lothian Wolves basketball club as four of their sides were defeated in the play-offs.

The men’s under-16 and under-18 sides, along with the same age groups in the girls section, suffered season-ending losses.

The under-16 men have had a good season by reaching the Scottish Cup final for a second consecutive year and ended the regular season with a 14-4 record but lost in the semi-finals of the play-offs to Falkirk Fury.

They had won their quarter-final clash against the Grampian Flyers the previous day, 98-53.

And there was play-off despair for the under-18 men too after they lost 74-52 against Glasgow City in the Division Two final.

It was a valiant effort by the Wolves, who had beaten City of Edinburgh B by 80-54 in the semi-finals.

The victory ensured that Glasgow City ended the season with a perfect record.

It has been a year of transition for the club’s under-18 women’s side and they performed well in spells during the course of the year but suffered an expected 97-67 quarter-final loss at the hands of the Boroughmuir Blaze, who will take on City of Edinburgh in the final on April 1.

The club’s under-16 women ended the regular season with a 6-6 record which saw them finish fourth in the standings.

They scored a commanding 81-48 victory over the Stirling Knights in the quarter-finals but that was as far as they would go this year as they were beaten 83-63 by the Lady Rocks in the next round as their season was brought to an end.
