Fans watch Rose hit 7 to make semi-finals

half when Robbie McNab ran through the heart of the visitors’ defence before calmly finding the corner beyond the helpless Nugent.

It now became a matter of how many Linlithgow would score as they took total domination of the contest although Gartcairn, cheered on by a vocal away support, never stopped battling.

The fourth goal arrived in unfortunate circumstances for the underdogs as Callum Brady diverted a cross into his own net before a threegoal spree in the final 15 minutes rounded things off for the Rose, whose cup form this season has been in stark contrast to their struggling league form.

Lewis Small came off the bench to net for Linlithgow on 75 minutes before Lee Pettigrew went close to giving his side a consolation with a low, fizzing effort that was well saved by Darren Hill.

Coyne, who notched his 250th goal for the club last week, grabbed his second of the contest before Harvey Swann wrapped things up in the 88th minute with a thunderous effort into the top corner.

A delighted Todd Lumsden hailed his side’s performance afterwards and admitted several of the goals were right off the training ground.

He said: “We scored seven goals and kept a clean sheet. You have to be satisfied with that.

“The second-half performance was great and coming out and scoring in the first few minutes is exactly what we asked for. I’m absolutely delighted, to be honest.

“The way we set up was to make sure we played with a high intensity and moved the ball forward quickly. We needed a bit more quality in the first half but we were still up.

“There’s more than one way to win a football match and at times it wasn’t silky soccer but we’re working on getting the work rate and ethic across.

“To get the goal so soon in the second half really set the tempo, which is what we didn’t do last week against Maryhill.

“They were all good goals. We’ve worked on getting the ball wide and getting it into the box and that’s where three or four goals came from.

“What we do in training, we try and take on to the pitch so hopefully we can continue with that.”
