Bulgarian leaps to the rescue as Livi made hard work of seeing off Stenny

Callum Carson Livingston took another massive step towards the League One title with victory over Stenhousem­uir on Tuesday night.

Nikolay Todorov scored the only goal of a game that was as one-sided a 1-0 win as you are likely to see as the Lions could easily have found the net on six or seven occasions.

For the first 60 minutes, they looked every bit champions-elect but their failure to create a larger deficit meant the visitors were always in with a shout and they did create problems as they threw men forward in the closing stages but Livi held on for the win as they kept their lead at nine points with just seven games left.

David Hopkin made two changes to the team that had beaten Stranraer 1-0 at the weekend with Shaun Byrne recalled to the team after the club appealed his betting ban.

Italian winger Raffaele de Vita was also given a starting berth with Jackson Longridge and Danny Mullen making way.

And de Vita should have given his team the lead within 40 seconds as he latched on to Liam Buchanan’s cross, turned his defender and then forced David Crawford into a neat save.

Livi’s top scorer was at it again barely two minutes later when his enticing cross was met at the back post by Todorov who inexplicab­ly chose to volley when a simple header would have kept the ball down and found the empty net.

It was evident that the hosts meant business and they were in complete control, passing up a series of chances before eventually getting themselves in front on 24 minutes when the Bulgarian
