Minister gives seal of approval

-

Capito, a leading British information technology services and solutions specialist based in West Lothian, received the ministerial seal of approval for their job creation efforts recently when Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Constitution Derek Mackay dropped in to their head office at Livingston.

The minister applauded Capitol’s recent accolade as recipient of the new Investors in Young People (IIYP) Silver Award, marking the company’s various initiatives, including active involvement in West Lothian Council’s StepsN2Work scheme.

Managing director Alan Middleton introduced two of their recruits – Caitlin Mowbray and Tiegan Brown – who represent what he described as the digital future of Scotland.

Caitlin joined Capito in July 2012 as an administration assistant having been educated at Inveralmond Community High School which she left in fourth year aged 17.

Initially wanting to become a hairdresser, she heard about The Steps N2 Work programme which led to her successful interview with Capito.

Caitlin has since completed a Business and Administration apprenticeship gaining her SVQ Level 6, and told the minister she has grown in confidence and increased her communication skills in the process.

Tiegan left St Kentigerns Academy at the end of fourth year in 2015 at the age of 16.

Initially working as a nursery apprentice, she applied to join the StepsN2 Work programme and applied to Capito because the job sounded like something she wanted to do.

Teigan has gained more skills in IT and dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis and has started her SCQFL6 in Business and Administration.

Commenting on the award, Mr Middleton said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award and to be recognised for the work we do with young people.

“I personally find it very rewarding to see a young person grow and develop their skills in their role or roles with us

“Capito has been an IIYPaccredited business for over 16 years and it really means a lot to be able to add this new IIYP Silver Accreditation to our name.”

The IIYP Accreditation is the only people management standard that focuses on an employer’s recruitment and retention of young people, representing a true commitment to the training and development of young people.

Peter Russian, chief executive of Investors in People Scotland, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Capito, and I and the whole IIYP team would like to wholeheartedly congratulate them.

“The benefits of recruiting and developing young people are countless.

“These include the creation of a talent pool for the future, new and increased skills in areas such as IT and social media, fresh eyes and mindsets into business operations along with enthusiasm and unique talents.”

Capito have been successfully operating for more than a quarter of a century, delivering end-user computing services, cloud, storage and virtualisation solutions and associated managed services . to major commercial and public sector organisations across the UK.
