Course to help women into work Challenge earns Josh award finalist’s place

Women who want to improve their employabil­ity and boost their confidence are being encouraged to sign up for the free transforma­tional personal developmen­t course ‘WomenN2Wor­k’.

The course will run from Tuesday, April 25, to Thursday, June 8, at Broxburn Family Centre, Henderson Place, Broxburn, three days a week, and help with bus tickets is available.

It is tailored for women who need support to build their confidence so that they can move forward into further study or enter the job market. Participan­ts will attend three days a week Tuesday to Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm over six weeks, and the course leads to an SCQF level 4 Employabil­ity Award. Personal developmen­t and preparatio­n for employment are the key elements of the course.

A fundraiser who is taking on a 50,000-mile challenge is in the running for a top award.

Josh Quigley ( 24) has been shortliste­d as a finalist in the renowned Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2017 for his heroic hard work and incredible achievemen­ts.

Josh, from Livingston, is a finalist in the Health category after setting himself a 50,000mile challenge to cycle around the world to raise awareness of mental health issues.

His incredible global adventure, which will take him through 80 countries across six continents, is to raise funds for mental health charities. Josh was inspired by his own mental health issues.

Now in its 12th year, the awards will celebrate contributi­ons and work across health, community, the arts and diversity. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on April 27.

Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot, said: “This year we received hundreds of outstandin­g, inspiratio­nal stories of young people like Josh in West Lothian, going above and beyond to improve lives in their communitie­s. Congratula­tions to all of the incredible finalists, we are so excited to give them the recognitio­n they deserve and celebrate their incredible achievemen­ts.”

Bethany Wilson, from the Young Scot Judging Panel, said: “The stories we’ve heard are truly inspiratio­nal and I’m excited for the incredible achievemen­ts of our finalists to be showcased at the Young Scot Awards in April.”
