Sarah captains Scots to silver

-

Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis brought the curtain down on a successful cross country season by captaining the Scottish senior women’s team to silver medals in the Home Countries International Cross Country Championship at Port Talbot in Wales on Saturday.

Sarah teamed up with Rosie Smith, Steph Pennycook and Mhairi MacLennan to finish just behind winners England.

Elsewhere, the club’s ladies team narrowly missed out on a podium place in Livingston at the Scottish Road Relay Championships.

The Lothian club fielded two teams in the men’s event and one in the women’s race.

Having won the title two years ago, LRC were able to turn in a fine display but weren’t able to clinch a medal.

New recruit Siobhan Coleman led off for the blue vests on the first of the short legs and after a fine run handed over to second runner Mel Zobel for the first of the long stages in sixth place.

A steady run saw Mel maintain the club’s top-10 place as she handed over to Mhairi Inglis in eight spot.

Mhairi has been in fine form and kept that up as she gained a spot before handing over to her sister Sarah for the anchor leg.

Despite competing in Wales the previous day, there was no sign of fatigue as she recorded the fastest leg of the day which saw her bring the team home in fourth spot.

The two men’s teams came home in 22nd 47th places.

Central AC did the double on the day, winning both the male and female races.
