Burn fight back for points

- Musselburgh Ath .... 1 Broxburn Ath .......... 2

A fast start to the second half saw Broxburn Athletic continue their fine form as they came from behind to grab all three points.

The hosts had taken the lead in the first half when Declan O’Kane’s was able to find the top corner beyond the despairing Connor Wallace.

But two goals within 10 minutes of the restart saw the Burn take the lead and they were able to hold on and stretch their run to just one defeat in 10 games.

Zander Miller, having scored three in last week’s win over Camelon, fired home the leveller barely two minutes into the second half but there was more than a helping hand from Musselburgh‘keeper Kieron Renton.

The stopper appeared to have the attempt covered, only for the ball to squirm under his body and over the line.

And Max Christie’s men took the lead on 55 minutes with a stunning free-kick from Kieran Anderson.

The front man beautifully curled a 30-yard strike home for the second consecutive game as the game turned on its head.

Wallace came to Broxburn’s rescue a minute after seeing his team take the lead when he saved Connor Spowart’s header before watching a strike from the same player fizz past the woodwork as the hosts, deep in relegation trouble, looked for a way back into the game.

While the hosts were piling forward, Broxburn created chances on the counter-attack but were unable to add to their lead.

The victory sees Athletic remain in sixth place as they head into an East of Scotland Cup clash at home to Broughty Athletic this weekend.
