Dale edged out at home

- Armadale Th .... 2 Tranent ............. 3

Andy Thomson netted both goals for Whitburn as they clinched a draw at home to Dalkeith Thistle.

The hosts took the lead in the early stages when Thomson pounced on a Dewi Taylor knock down.

Neither side created much in front of goal until Dalkeith were awarded a soft free-kick on the edge of the box on the half hour mark.

Jamie Redpath duly fired the set-play into the bottom corner beyond the diving Dougie Horne.

Whitburn squandered a string of chances prior to the half-time break as Gary Brass failed to connect with a free-kick while Taylor’s efforts were twice repelled. Armadale Thistle lost two second half goals as their survival hopes took a hit at home to Tranent.

The Dale had fought back from a goal down to lead at the interval but were unable to hold on to clinch their first Premier League win since beating local rivals Bathgate in December.

Guy Kerr had opened the scoring for Tranent just five minutes into the game but after shaking off the cobwebs of a slow start, Armadale found themselves on level terms when Ross Tierney fired home midway through the first half.

And they were able to get their noses in front just before the break when Liam Kane headed home for the hosts.

However, Tranent came out the better team after the interval and Scott McNaughton, on loan from Broxburn Athletic, was able to find the net for the away side having earlier hit the post.

The front man was proving too much for the Thistle defence to handle and he netted the crucial goal before Armadale’s attempts to get back into the contest were dealt a killer blow when their goalkeeper was shown a red card in the latter stages.
