- Sean O’Neil

one of the oldest women in West Lothian has celebrated yet another birthday - turning an incredible 107 years old on Sunday.

Janet MacKay, currently a resident of Broxburn nursing Home, reached the amazing milestone on March 26, surrounded by staff and friends at the care facility.

Mrs MacKay was born in 1910 in edinburgh, living through two world wars, with her late husband fighting in the second.

She has two sons, one of whom sadly passed away, and the other, Donald MacKay, who lives in australia with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her early years, before she got married, Mrs MacKay worked as a nanny in the capital and cared for a young girl named thea Musgrave who went on to be a famous composer of opera and classical music and who was awarded a CBe.

In her later life, Mrs MacKay moved to uphall to live with her son before finally moving into Broxburn nursing Home in 2013, aged 103 years.

Laura McCorisken, a staff nurse at the nursing home, said she still likes to talk and tell stories.

Laura said:“She’s really quite chatty.

“She’ll tell you all about the war time and tell you really good stories.

“We also have a wee dog in the nursing home and she likes spending time with that and clapping and petting it.”
