Easter worship and celebration
Marking main event in church calendar
Bathgate Churches Together are inviting everyone to celebrate the Easter message at a number of local services.
On Palm Sunday (April 9) at 6.30pm there will be a United Service of Meditation for Holy Week in Torphichen Kirk and on Monday, April 10 at 7pm at St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church the film ‘ The Passion’ will be screened and Tuesday, April 11 at 7.30pm there will a performance of Choral Evensong also at St Columba’s.
On Maundy Thursday (April 13) at 7.30pm there will be a United Service with the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper in St. John’s Parish Church and at 7pm at Torphichen Kirk a shared meal and informal celebration of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper in St John’s Hall.
On Good Friday ( April 14) between 10am and 12.30pm, St John’s Parish Church in Mid Street will be open for quiet reflection with a short Act of Worship at 12pm.
Then, between 2pm and 3pm at St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church, there will be ‘ The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross’ and later, at 7pm in Torphichen Kirk there will be a Good Friday Evening Service and at 7.30pm Bathgate High Parish Church will hold a United Service for Good Friday Evening.
On Easter Eve (Saturday, April 15) St John’s Parish Church, Mid Street will be open from 10am to 12pm for worshippers to view the floral decorations and visit the Easter coffee morning in the church hall and at 8pm an Easter Vigil will be held in St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church.
On Easter Sunday itself there will be a dawn service at 7am on the Knock followed by breakfast in St John’s Church Hall at 11 am.
There will be Easter services in the High Church, in St John’s Church and in the United Reformed Church and the Family Service in St John’s will include a celebration of Easter Communion.
At 11.15am the Festival Eucharist takes place in St Columba’s Scottish Episcopal Church and at 11.15am Easter Worship will be held in Torphichen Kirk with Communion.
In addition to these services there are Holy Week Services in Boghall Parish Church each evening at 7pm and in St Mary’s and St Columba’s Roman Catholic Church as intimated.
