An excellent show of work by West Lothian’s Scottish Women’s Institute members was held in Linlithgow Academy recently.

Items on display demonstrated a range of baking skills, a variety of different crafts, floral art, painting and there was a large number of children’s entries this year.

Also on display were knitted baby items which are being donated to St John’s hospital and twiddlemuffs which will be distributed to Alzheimers and Dementia groups in West Lothian.

During the morning of show day, judges from other federations began the difficult task of judging the many entries before the show was open in the afternoon to SWI members, their families and the public, who admired the display of work and enjoyed the teas. The prizegiving ceremony was led by federation chairman Christine Barton and trophies were presented by past chairman Ellie Fleming who received flowers and a gift as thanks. Also present were several past federation chairmen and guests from neighbouring federations. The Crichton trophy for the institute gaining most points overall was won by Whitburn, with runner-up Ecclesmachan institute receiving the Blackness trophy. Whitburn also won the Gallacher Garrow trophy and Kirkliston won the Anderson trophy for floral art. Kirknewton gained most points in the novice section and were presented with the Caldwell trophy. The McDowall trophy for most points in the institute effort went to Ecclesmachan who also won the Lamont vase for the institute with fewer than 30 members.
