County bands set to play summer festival

Two at Wildfire fest

- Sean O’Neil

Two West Lothian bands will wow crowds at a Scottish rock festival this summer.

Tantrum and The King Lot will play Wildfire Festival in Wiston, South Lanarkshire, which is held between June 23 to 25.

A slot at the three-day festival, which features over 70 bands, means a lot to Tantrum.

Drummer Billy Angus said: “One minute we didn’t have a spot at the festival and then the next we did so it was a bit of good fortune but we’ve been working on it for a long time.

“We started in 2014 and it’s taken us to now to get started and get where we want to be so it’s all moving in the right direction.”

The band have played many gigs in West Lothian and Glasgow and have also been booked up to play Rockmantic next year, a Valentine’s weekend rock festival in Carlisle which The King Lot will also play.

Billy said: “We’re just trying to get out there and get a bit more established and play further afield. If any managers want to take us on then we would like to talk to them because we pretty much do it all on our own at the moment.”

The King Lot will also play the South Lanarkshire festival and said it would be the perfect opportunity to play some new songs before they release their second album this year.

The Wildfire gig may also be one of the first ventures out for the band’s new guitarist Jay Moir, who replaces Michael Fairbairn.

They said: “We are really excited to be returning to Wildfire Festival again this year.

“Wildfire takes place in one of the most spectacular locations you’ll ever see for a festival and we’re honoured to be part of such an amazing line-up.

“The bands are always first class and the energy from the crowd at Wildfire is something you can’t quite describe.”
