U-25s in hat-trick of wins
The West Lothian Bowling Association Under-25 side got their season off to a fine start with a hat-trick of wins at a tournament in Hawick hosted by the Borders Association.
They faced a tough opening clash in the shape of East Lothian but a strong finish saw them score a terrific 66-57 win over the Garden County.
Home advantage didn’t come to the rescue of Borders in West Lothian’s second fixture with the visitors turning in another strong performance to score a runaway 90-43 victory.
Jack Murphy led the charge, skipping his unchanged rink from 6-4 to a 17-5 win that was supported by an 18-11 contribution from Declan Duff, Martin Dryburgh, Kyle Broadley, and Darren Pearce.
Jordan Pearce produced a whirlwind finish from 12-5 down to storm to a 17-12 victory while Connor McKendrick skipped Gordon Sneddon, Ryan Lawrie, and William Borland to a 19-14 triumph and Robbie Cuthill won 11-17. Rory Walker was piped 9-8.
Win number three to capture the title was achieved at the 60-55 expense of Midlothian in hard fought clash that West Lothian were able to edge.
“There were several hard fought battles over the three match challenge and to come out on top as a team is an encouraging start ahead of the competitive season at national level,” said delighted team manager Gordon Logan.
