Miilo is the picture perfect top dog

Pooch wins contest

- Marjorie Kerr

A very handsome hound from Livingston has enjoyed his moment in the spotlight as the star of a pet photoshoot.

To celebrate National Love Your Pet Day in February, The Centre, Livingston offered one lucky animal lover the chance to win a pet photography session by Barking Cat Pet Photography as well as a £100 Gift Card to treat their furry friend to something special.

The Shop The Centre Facebook page was inundated with photos of cute canines and magnificent moggies - all of which were studied by the judging panel and whittled down to the top six, which were then put to the public vote. The winner was Miilo, a five-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, nominated by his owner Lynne MacIver (40) from Ladywell, Livingston. Cheeky Miilo was up against stiff competition but with an impressive 352 likes, the cute Yorkie grabbed the top spot. On the day of the photoshoot, Lynne and Miilo headed to Newhailes National Trust property in Musselburgh with photographer Kim, with Miilo posing for the perfect picture - looking very much the gentleman in his bow tie and Black Watch tartan dog kilt.

Ashley Bisland, deputy centre director at The Centre, commented: “The response to the competition was overwhelming with owners keen to give their faithful friends a well-deserved treat. The photos from the shoot are adorable and we’re so pleased that Lynne and Miilo enjoyed the experience.”

Lynne MacIver, Miilo’s owner, added: “I love this picture. I wanted it to have a Scottish feel and the outfit and setting were perfect. Kim the photographer was so friendly and approachable - Miilo can be a little timid but took to Kim no bother – especially as she was armed with my tub of cooked chicken. We’d be lost without our little ball of fur. He has brought a lot of fun to our family.”
