Bathgate blooms in a roundabout way
Community council’s flowerbed scheme
A Bathgate roundabout is blooming thanks to the town’s community council.
Balbardie Roundabout on Torphichen Road has been given a colourful facelift as part of Bathgate Community Council’s Town Flowerbeds Project.
Its members recently struck a deal with Buildbase and West Lothian Council to landscape the roundabout.
Treasurer Donald Stavert explained: “The roundabout has had until now three pretty ordinary flowerbeds which cost the community council a fair old sum in bedding plants since it stepped in to take responsibility last year.
“Over the winter a plan was hatched to bring the community council volunteers together with council NETs and Land and Countryside Services team together to look at a new design that would be both eye catching and money saving.
“The idea was formed of revamping the three beds into three leaf shapes linked by branches filled with decorative white chips and colourful shrubs to give a maintenance free decorative design that will last for years.
“The NETs and Land and Countryside Services team did the spadework as part of a service level agreement with the community council, who are funding the summer bedding plants for the other flowerbeds in the town.”
