Raising cash for big day

-

The organisers of Bathgate Procession have thanked everyone who braved the weather on Saturday for the street fair and mile of pennies.

Despite the terrible weather over £500 was raised for the procession and the committee also praised stall holders who turned out on the day for their support.

Treasurer Jim Walker said: “On Sunday night an excellent entry of 31 cars took part in the ever popular car treasure hunt with the winners being the Berginis family.

“Tomorrow (Friday) will again see the children’s scooter racing at Morrisons supermarket carpark with a 6.30pm start and following the Highland Games on Saturday the 5-a-side football tournament will be held in Balbardie Park on Sunday from 1pm.

“Tuesday will see the Weslo sponsored children’s sports at Meadow Park from 6.30pm and it is then the adults turn when the British Legion Club will again be the venue for the annual quiz with an 8pm start.

“Friday, June 2, will see former Bathgate Academy pupil Mr John Jeffrey Downie deliver the Newland Oration in the High Church at 8pm.

“All of these events are part of the build-up to Procession Day on Saturday, June 3 and by now most people should have received their copy of the procession programme giving full details of procession events.

“Finally, anyone wishing to collect spruce for decorations is asked to meet at Gardners Lane car park at 9.30am on Sunday, May 28, and they should bring with them suitable tools for cutting the branches.”

Anyone without a copy of the programme can get one by contacting Jim Walker on 01506 652483.
