Best newcomer award for Sarah

- Sean O’Neil

A West Lothian entrepreneur has taken home a top prize at the regional finals of Scotland’s Business Awards in Edinburgh.

Sarah McDonald (27) won the Best New Small Business accolade for her luxury beauty salon in Bathgate, Beautyme.

Sarah, from Longridge, said she was surprised but delighted to take home the newcomer award at the Edinburgh and Lothians ceremony.

Speaking about receiving the award on the night Sarah said: “I was speechless. I just said thanks and that was it. I was up before the lady had the award on stage in case she had said the wrong name.”

The award is the result of over 18 months of hard work for the beautician who always dreamed of opening up her own business.

Sarah said: “It’s all down to the clients for making the dream come true. I’ve always wanted to go out on my own and the opportunity came up and it was now or never so I jumped in with both feet.

“I just want to thank all the clients. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here today.”

To be in the running for the Best New Business Award Sarah was nominated by one of her clients before she then won the prize based on public votes, mystery shopper tests and site visits.

Sarah and Beautyme will now compete against the other regional winners in the finals of Scotland’s Business Awards at the The Grand Final in Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel on May 28.
