ITF Taekwon-do club’s medal success

ITF Taekwon-do club from Broxburn are celebratin­g a string of recent achievemen­ts at European and national events.

The club, who train at Broxburn United Sports Club on Tuesday and Saturdays, are part of the ITF UKTC organisati­on and their members have scored a number of individual successes.

Three of the club’s senior members; Maria Risk (5th degree black belt), Richard Glennie (2nd degree black belt) and Euan Millar (2nd degree black belt) were selected to represent Scotland at the European ITF Championsh­ips in Liverpool. And the trio were able to contribute two silvers towards a tremendous haul of 42 medals for their country, which placed Scotland 11th in the world rankings.

The club also took part in the recent United Kingdom Taekwon-do Council ITF Champions League in Wishaw earlier this month, sealing several medals as they took on the best from the UK.

Euan Millar won golds for 2nd degree black belt patterns and special technique flying high kick along with silver in the 1st degree black belt patterns.

Maria Victoria Rodriguez scored gold for sparring and silver for patterns while Darren Watt also grabbed a gold medal. He finished top of the pile for patterns and also scored a bronze for sparring.

Gail Park and Aryelly Rodriguez each scored a silver medal with the former coming second in sparring while Aryelly got her medal for patterns.

Rachel Park won bronze medals in sparring and patterns to round off a hugely successful event for the club.

ITF Taekwon-do have classes for a variety of age groups and abilities beginning with their Little Tigers class for three-year-olds.
