United end season with away defeat

-

Rosyth .................. 3 Livingston United . 1

Livingston United ended their 2016/17 season with defeat away at Rosyth.

Despite taking an early lead, United were pegged back, with all four goals coming before the break.

Kieran McGurk found the net with the visitors’ first chance of the game on three minutes when he tapped home from close range.

However, Rosyth, who ended their South Division campaign in eighth place, quickly turned things around.

Prolific striker Tam Hampson scored the equaliser midway through the first half with a header at the front post before a darting run from Matty Dawson five minutes later ended with the midfielder firing the ball low into the corner of the net.

Rosyth’s third came on 35 minutes and again came from the air as Mark McCulloch’s free-kick was diverted home by Gregg Robertson.

Despite a challenging season, Livi have battled hard in games and they had their chances to get back into the contest after the break but Richie Kay’s spectacular overhead kick rattled the woodwork while Steven Manson’s effort went over the bar.

The defeat means that the Station Park side ended the season sitting 11th in the South Division for the second straight campaign and claimed a solitary away victory which came at Stoneyburn in February.
