Mooney shines on her return

Edel’s getting back in her stride

Lothian Running Club’s Edel Mooney grabbed second place on her return to racing at the Kinnoull Hill Race in Perth.

Having been sidelined with injury, Mooney impressed as she covered the four-mile course in 31.35.

She was defending champion but can be pleased with her performanc­e, which saw her claim 31st spot overall and second female.

Lothian Running Club’s Josh Dack sealed a 15th Livingston Parkrun victory on Saturday morning.

The LRC member has more victories in his hometown 5km event than anyone else and his time of 17.36 saw him lead the field home again once more.

And the club celebrated the double as Jo Williams secured the female title with her time of 19.40 seeing her finish 10th overall and first female for a ninth time.

Elsewhere in the parkruns on Saturday morning, Robbie Kennedy’s time of 17.27 saw him finish second in Edinburgh, while Stratchcly­de parkrun regular Brian Morris sealed a fantastic personal best of 22.44.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Stirling Scottish Marathon took place on Sunday with seven Lothian Running Club members amongst the more than 6500 runners on the start line.

The LRC contingent were led home by ultra-marathon runner Shona Young who covered the 26.2 mile course in 3:22.33.

Paul Young (3:33.29), Calum Ross (3:42.21), David Prats Jubany (3:55.35), Finlay Slane (3:57.27), Linda Garratty ( 3: 59.11), and William Francis ( 4: 31.21) completed the LRC septet.

Mags Turnbull was the Lothian club’s sole representa­tive in the Cape Wrath Marathon, which takes in the most north-westerly point of Scotland.

She ran a great race in challengin­g conditions with heavy rain and winds, narrowly missing out on breaking the fivehour mark with her time of 5:00.31 which saw her finish sixth in the FV55 category.

Elsewhere in a busy week for the club, several members competed in the West Lothian College 5km event in which Linlithgow Athletic Club sealed a one-two finish with Josh Redding taking the title ahead of David Marshall. Ryan Ferguson (4th) was the top LRC runner with Pol McDonald (6th), Peter Harkess (10th), Scott Lamb (15th), Stephen Malcolm (16th), Jim Alexander (19th), Alec Agnew ( 31st) and Cliff Dicker ( 43rd) being the other LRC members to complete the course.

The second match of the 2017 Forth Valley League took place at over the weekend with all three LRC members grabbing personal bests in every event.

Robyn MacDonald won the under- 15 girls 800m event in 2:47.69 and finished second in the 100m in 14.15. Eilidh Hood also grabbed a second and third in the under-13 girls events, finishing second in the 1500m (6:05.81) and third in the long jump (3.06m).

Ross Gillespie’s time of 15.00 saw him finish fourth in the under-15 boys 100m.
