- Marjorie Kerr

A West Lothian woman has been shortlisted for a national award for helping unemployed people return to work.

Angela Doran ( 39) of Livingston, has been shortlisted in the Adviser of the Year category at the fifth annual Employability Awards, run by the Employment Related Services Association.

Angela, who works as a personal consultant for employability, skills and offender rehabilitation provider Working Links, devotes her time to supporting and developing people as they look towards sustainable employment.

In the last year, she has already been recognised for her work, having been the organisation’s top performer. Although focusing on local customers, Angela’s work is experienced across the country, with her methods and experience being captured by Working Links and utilised in other delivery regions.

Her work has been turned into ser vice manuals to act as guides to help other consultants in their work and less experienced consultants across the country are encouraged to work alongside Angela to develop their skills.

Angela said: “I’m delighted to have been shortlisted for the Adviser of the Year award and to have the opportunity to represent Working Links. I very much appreciate the platform Working Links and my manager, Lorna Beaton, have given me to use my skills to support people back into sustainable employment.” Wo r k i n g Links performance manager, Lorna Beaton, said: “Key to Angela’s success is that she successfully delivers on the challenging balance of building rapport with her customers whilst encouraging them to try things out with their comfort zone in order to progress them.

“Moreover, Angela leaves no stone uncovered, relentlessly and at pace ensuring customers get the support and opportunities they ought to have.

“She has changed so many lives of people for the better, with some customers feeling there was no hope or certainly no working future for them before working with Angela.”

Winners w i l l b e announced at a special ceremony in London on June 29.
