Today voters will decide which of the candidates on this page will represent them in the House of Commons for the next five years. That’s just one job up for grabs, but your new MP will be faced with hundreds of people across Livingston who will be worried about their own jobs.

Decisions being made in the USA at the headquarters of companies like Jabil and Ethicon could mean significant job losses for two major local employers.

Only the Liberal Democrats are campaigning for Scotland to stay in both the UK and EU single markets. Each of these important economic partnerships are vital for our country’s continued growth and for keeping jobs in Scotland.

Experts predict that Theresa May’s hard Brexit from the EU puts at risk up to 80,000 Scottish jobs, while leaving the UK would mean breaking up a single market worth 400 per cent more than that. Neither would be good news for the Livingston jobs market.

As well as a strong economy providing plenty of jobs, we need quality education to ensure that the workforce is properly trained. That is why Scottish Liberal Democrats have been focused on the Scottish Government needing to support better education for years now.

We also need to help new business, enterprise and start-ups. The Liberal Democrats will assist entrepreneurs with their living costs over the first six months of running a business. Perhaps the Bill Gates of the next generation could come from Livingston with the right support.
