Specialists are delighted to be nominated

- Sean O’Neil

Two woman at a specialist West Lothian health centre have been nominated for an NHS Lothian hero award in recognition of their work in the community.

Kim Venton and Linsey Duncan of the CRABIS (Community Rehab and Brain Injury Service) Team at Carmondean Ability Centre were nominated by thankful patients.

Kim, an occupational therapist at CRABIS, said it was nice to have their work recognised.

She added: “It’s good because our service is quite a unique service and I think the residents in West Lothian are quite lucky to have a neurological centre in the area.”

CRABIS has been operating since 2000 and is jointly funded by NHS Lothian and West Lothian Council.

Ms Venton went on: “We’re a community led rehab service so it’s for people that have serious neurological illness and injuries. We’re a specialised service and we’re being recognised for the rehab service we provide and we make a big difference to people’s lives in getting them back to their full capabilities – back to work and back out and about.”

The occupational therapist said that she and Ms Duncan, a physiotherapist, had a small inkling someone had put them forward for the hero award.

She explained: “We had an idea. The patient who nominated us has been praising us up to the nines and telling everyone about us.

“I think it’s nice to have this rehabilitation centre for the community recognised.”

Also nominated for the Hero Award is the Mother and baby Unit at St John’s Hospital, while the Employability and Work Placement Team and the Catering Team at St John’s Hospital have both been nominated for Team of the Year awards.

Agnes Gardner, a Laser Suite Charge Nurse at St John’s Hospital has been nominated for the Lynn Jackson Nurse of the Year Award.

The award ceremony will be held on Friday, June 16, and you can check the West Lothian Courier next week when will be talking to more of the nominees.
