Groups are all in the money!

So grateful they received cash aid

- Debbie Hall

Three community groups in Livingston are celebrating after being awarded grants totalling more than £ 900 from Asda Livingston, as part of the latest round of Green Token Given donations.

West Lothian Wolves Basketball Club, Livingston Youth Bowling Club, Polbeth and West Calder Community Garden have all received funds from the Asda scheme.

The Green Token Given scheme allows customers at Asda Livingston to pick groups and causes close to their own hearts to gain vital funding boosts.

More than 10,000 UK charities and causes near Asda stores will benefit from additional funding this year, thanks to a £1 million investment by the Asda Foundation.

Recipients are awarded funds based on customers dropping a green token into one of three boxes, one for each shortlisted charity, and then at the end of the charity period, the charity with the largest amount of tokens receives £500 and the remaining two each receive £200.

West Lothian Wolves Basketball Club is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) offering basketball to those in the West Lothian area. Players range from under 10 to adults.

Livingston Youth Bowling Club is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 21. It caters for all skill levels and has a number of highly skilled and talented coaches.

Set up in 2013, the Polbeth and West Calder Community Garden aim to provide an opportunity for local people, schools and community groups to grow fruit and vegetables and take part in a range of outdoor leisure activities.

All of these groups have received their funding thanks to the help of Asda Livingston’s dedicated community champion, Abigayle Lorraine.

Abigayle, said: “We are very honoured to be able to continually support local charity groups from across Livingston.

“At Asda, we’re always thrilled when customers nominate charities close to their hearts and allow them to be in with the chance of benefiting from these vital funding boosts.

“We couldn’t be happier showing our appreciation by helping as much as we can with these latest donations and raising awareness of the hard work done by all groups.”

Amanda Mortimer, club secretary at West Lothian Wolves Basketball Club, added: “The entire team at West Lothian Wolves would like to thank Asda Livingston for this incredibly generous donation.

“Charitable grants and donations are vital in helping us continue the work we do and helping support as many local people as possible. The £500 donation from the Asda Foundation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to us, it is also a bonus to know that we are supported by members of the wider local community too.”
