Borland and Bruce take league titles

Decisions go right down to their final games

- Callum Carson

The Cawburn Sports Bar Over and Under 50s leagues ended in a thrilling climax with the titles going right down to the wire.

In the under-50s league, the lead changed hand three times in three weeks with last season’s runner- up William Borland going one better this time round as he grabbed the title in style ahead of Arran Edwards.

Shaun Clow, who had led the way for most of the season, had to eventually settle for third, while Paul Weir and Rex Brady were joint fourth.

Sixth place went to Rab Dick of Kirknewton while the final money prize went to Scott Baillie in seventh spot.

The defending champion rallied well over the final few weeks after a disappointing start to his title defence.

The over-50s league was equally as tight and thrilling and, in a repeat of the younger age group, it was last season’s runner-up who clinched the trophy as Gordon Bruce edged out Jim Mitchell.

The two friends were never far apart during the course of the campaign and Mitchell inflicted Bruce with his only loss of the season.

But, while Mitchell, who was last season’s victorious player, made it through the entire campaign unbeaten once again, Bruce took home the prize on points thanks to having more 4-0 score lines that proved the difference.

Micky Bruce and William Harraughty ended the season tied for third place with Davie Nisbet claiming the final money prize in fifth.
