Lothian Running Club hosted another successful 10km annual Trail Race at Dechmont Law.

Apart from a sprinkling of showers on Sunday, conditions for the runners were ideal with Dunfermline-based PH Racing Club duo Ben Hulkins and Colin Somerville claiming a one-two in the main event.

Josh Dack was the first host club runner to cross the line as he came home in third place while there was success for LRC in the women’s category with Chloe Cox taking the title with her time of 41.24.

She finished 13th overall with fellow LRC member Alan Knowles coming home three seconds before Chloe in 12th place and second in the club rankings.

Piotr Horodyski won the 3km event in 12.01 with 10-year-old Lewis Moir winning the 2km Fun Run.

Across the Atlantic, Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis had good runs in both Canada and the United States in the space of four days last week.

Last Thursday, she contested the women’s 1500m at the Vic City Invite meet in Victoria, British Columbia.

In windy conditions, Sarah’s time of 4:12.99 saw her finish fourth in a tight race that saw the first four separated by just 0.67 seconds.

On Sunday, she crossed the border to contest the women’s 5000m event at the Portland Track Festival in Oregon and once again put in a decent performance, recording a new personal best.

Her time of 15:41.29 was over seven seconds faster than her previous best of 15:48.66 set just over a year ago in Palo Alto, California.

On home soil, there was a category win for the club’s ultra-runner Shona Young.

Running in the Strathearn Marathon along with her brother Paul, she finished leading the female over-50 category, covering the 26.2 mile course in a little under three-and-a-half hours. That time also placed her 27th overall while Paul crossed the line in 43rd place in a time of 3:48.52.

In the midweek Corstorphine 5-mile road race there was a category win for Malcolm Lang, who was 13th overall and first in the M40 age group in 27.56.

His club- mates Paul Cackette (155th), Jim Alexander (163rd), Alan Weir (170th) and Ian Leggett (230th) all completed the race.

The club were also represented in a couple of 10km events with Mike Murray completing the Roon the Toon in 55.22 and Alan Robertson being slightly quicker at 50.18 in Rouken Glen.
