Students win award for health initiative

West Lothian College students have achieved a prestigious award from the Healthy Body Healthy Mind campaign.
The Healthy Body Healthy Mind Awards are a partnership initiative between the National Union of Students Scotland and Scottish Student Sport, which focuses on the link between sports, physical activity, smoking prevention and mental health. The students worked hard to achieve a four star rating by developing their own dynamic campaign on campus.
Micole Robertson, student association development officer at West Lothian College, said: “We took part in the Healthy Body Healthy Mind (HBHM) Award in order to empower students to make positive changes to their mental and physical lifestyle. Our aim was to promote student health and wellbeing, combat lifestyle apathy and inspire the change that is needed to encourage physical activity, mental health awareness and maintaining a work /life balance which supports mental wellbeing. We are thrilled to be granted four stars ensuring that our students are supported whilst at West Lothian College and look after their own health and wellbeing.”
West Lothian College student, Sarah Kerr, commented: “We are delighted to have achieved a Four star rating and we would like to thank all of our amazing volunteers. As part of the campus campaign we used the Student Association Facebook page, held class representative meetings and launched our new student Association website has been a valuable tool in sharing information which can be accessed at www.westlothiansa. co. uk.” Mhairi Harrington OBE, principal at West Lothian College, added: “I would like to congratulate our students on this excellent achievement which is well deserved.”
