Livingston boss David Hopkin has revealed that youngster Jack Hamilton turned down offers from English Championship clubs to sign a full-time contract with the Lions.

The 16- year- old is highly regarded by the head coach and he admitted he was delighted when the contract was signed, meaning Hamilton will be making the step- up from the club’s under-17 squad and will train with the first team.

Hopkin said: “We had to work hard to keep him because there was two or three English Championship clubs who wanted to take him down there.

“We had to talk to his parents and ensure them that this was the best option for him and we were delighted when he signed.”

He added: “He’s a lad of great potential. In training he doesn’t look out of place at all and we hope we can continue developing him at the club.

“He did have offers elsewhere but he would have been training in an under- 20s environment and I think Jack has more to offer than that.

“We’re going to look after him and make sure we don’t throw him in the deep end when he’s not ready.

“I have seen Jack numerous times with our under- 20 development team and he has always impressed me. I’m confident that Jack continuing his development at Livingston suits both parties.”
