Young mum fronts Bliss campaign

- Sean O’Neil

a young West Lothian mum whose son was born prematurely is helping to promote a new campaign for the charity Bliss as their newly appointed community ambassador.

Coady Dorman from Broxburn gave birth to her son Matthew, now two, after 29 weeks and was assisted by Bliss following the birth.

she is now helping to promote a ‘100-mile campaign ’for the charity which asks people to cover 100 miles in the month of september doing any activity they want. Coady said: “Having had my own son born prematurely, this is something that is hugely important to me.

“You can complete this distance any way you like, by foot, bike or even space hopper – it’s up to you.

“If you sign up, you’ll be given your own fundraising page but can join the Bliss West Lothian team so we can see how much everyone has raised in the area.

“You can do as much or as little each day over the month and by directing people to your personal fundraising page they can pledge their sponsors to support you.”

the 100-mile distance was chosen as some parents can travel up to 100 miles to see their premature or sick children in hospital.

an alternative challenge of 27 miles for the month has also been set as this is the average distance a parent will travel to visit their premature baby.

Coady said: “unbelievably some parents face a round trip of 100 miles or more. that’s why we’re asking you to take on a 27-mile or 100-mile challenge to raise money for Bliss.

“there is no registration fee and no set fundraising target. We just ask that you raise as much as you can.

“raise £50 and you will receive a Bliss t-shirt, cycle jersey or running vest depending on what activity you are doing.”

For more information on the challenge you can email Coady on coadiak@gmail.com or sign up at www.everydayhero.co.uk/event/gothed.
