Clubs start to tune up

A host of Junior clubs kicked off their pre-season preparatio­ns over the weekend as the focus turns to the new campaign.

Superleagu­e side Broxburn Athletic gave a good account of themselves for 45 minutes against Lowland League outfit Spartans but went down 4-0 with all four goals coming after the break.

James Mildren netted Blackburn United’s goal in a credible 1-1 draw against top flight opposition Camelon.

United, who are gearing up for their first season in the Premier League, have added former Celtic youth star Scott Hay and Fauldhouse United captain Michael Browne to their ranks.

Fauldhouse United got the better of host club Petershill to reach the final of the Petershill Tournament but lost 4-0 to Kirkintill­och Rob Roy in the final.

Kieran McKee and Craig Russell were on the scoresheet for Livingston United as the Station Park side grabbed a 2-1 win over Liverpool-based Kent FC while Stoneyburn’s friendlies got underway with a 6-2 defeat against Rosyth with Joe Brady and Aaron Menzies getting the goals for the Fulshie.

Their near neighbours West Calder United grabbed a 1-1 draw away from home at Vale of Leven. They have their first pre-season clash at Hermand Park on Saturday when they welcome Royal Albert to West Lothian.

Linlithgow Rose take on St Mirren Under-20s at Prestonfie­ld on Friday evening in their first pre-season clash.
