We dug deep to take win

-

Well the season is already in full swing with the Betfred Cup taking centre stage in the first few weeks.

It was always going to be a tough ask to qualify from a group that included Partick Thistle and St Mirren, along with League One sides Airdrie and Stranraer.

Our first game, against a Jags team who finished sixth in the top flight last term, didn’t get off to the best of starts as we were a goal down early doors.

But we upped our game and we were able to get a deserved leveller barely a minute into the second half before our new penalty king Neil Alexander ensured we got the bonus point.

On Tuesday night, a trip to Paisley was going to be just as challenging but a goal inside two minutes was followed by one of the most gutsy performances from a Livi team that I’ve seen in a very long time.

Despite being under the cosh, the team battled to the 1-0 victory thanks to an incredible defensive display.

So after two games we have five points on the board, a tally well beyond our expectations and that puts us in a great position.

Next up is a home tie against Airdrie who are a team we defeated five times last term but one we absolutely can’t take lightly.

However, a victory win would almost ensure our progress and a potential lucrative tie in the last 16. I hope to see you at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Saturday to cheer the Lions.
