West Lothian U3A (University of the 3rd Age) - The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16 at 2pm at Uphall Community Centre. The speaker will be Alan Greig, a Digital Skills Officer from RNIB Scotland, who will speak about the features built into touchscreen tablets and phones, that make them fully accessible for people with little or no useful sight. Some U3A special interest groups will take a break in July or August, and others will meet as usual. Please contact the relevant group co-ordinator for more information. SMART Recovery meeting This is a peer led, mutual aid meeting for people trying to abstain from any form of addiction. Warm welcome and support from people who understand your daily struggle. We meet every Thursday morning in Strathbrock Community Centre from 9.45am – 11.15am. For further information please contact Sheila on 01506 446528. Craft and Chat Ladies will meet every Wednesday evening 7.30pm -9 pm until August 30 in Uphall South Church Hall. Cancer Support Group New group meet on Tuesday, August 8 in Strathbrock Partnership 1pm-3pm in the Youth Room (enter through entrance adjacent to large blue container). The group then meet every second Tuesday. This cancer support group is open to individuals touched by any type of cancer. The group has been formed to give parents, survivors and caregivers the support and strength to move forward together. Refreshments will be provided. People’s Memories Cafe Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month 11am -12.30pm in the lounge of Bield’s sheltered housing, St Andrew’s Court, 20 Hawthorn Place, Uphall EH52 5BX. This friendly and supportive café is for people with dementia and their carers; anyone who likes to reminisce and share memories of ‘days gone by’ is also most welcome. Do pop in and enjoy a ‘cuppa’ and delicious home baking, friendly company and fun activities. Uphall Station Bowling Club – Dominoes every Thursday night from 9pm till 11pm. It will take place from Monday, August 7 to Friday, August 11 from 10am -12.00 each day. It is open to all Primary age children including those starting P1 this year. Each day there will be songs, games, stories, crafts and refreshments. On the Friday, parents and friends are invited to join the kids for a barbecue at 11.30am. After the Holiday Club, on Sunday, August 13 at 5.30pm Family Fellowship will start up again. Broxburn Gala Day (26th August 2017) - Parade commences from Wyndford Avenue, Uphall at noon. All participants need to be there no later than 11.30am as the roads will be closed. All children who applied to be fairies, flower girls, bower girls, escorts or soldiers are automatically in the parade we hope to see them all on the day. Walking Club every Thursday at 10am. Community walk starting and ending at Albyn Park. Free, everyone welcome. Drop In to Weigh-and-Go Weigh2Go West Lothian is a free, weekly weigh-in service that provides help and support on losing weight. There is also information and signposting on what’s on in your area to help you maintain a healthy weight. No appointment is necessary just drop in.
