West Lothian U3A (University of the 3rd Age) - The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16 at 2pm at Uphall Community Centre. The speaker will be Alan Greig, a Digital Skills Officer from RNIB Scotland, who will speak about the features built into touchscree­n tablets and phones, that make them fully accessible for people with little or no useful sight. Some U3A special interest groups will take a break in July or August, and others will meet as usual. Please contact the relevant group co-ordinator for more informatio­n. SMART Recovery meeting This is a peer led, mutual aid meeting for people trying to abstain from any form of addiction. Warm welcome and support from people who understand your daily struggle. The group then meet every second Tuesday. This cancer support group is open to individual­s touched by any type of cancer. People’s Memories Cafe Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month 11am -12.30pm in the lounge of Bield’s sheltered housing, St Andrew’s Court, 20 Hawthorn Place, Uphall EH52 5BX. This friendly and supportive café is for people with dementia and their carers; anyone who likes to reminisce and share memories of ‘days gone by’ is also most welcome. It will take place from Monday, August 7 to Friday, August 11 from 10am -12.00 each day. It is open to all Primary age children including those starting P1 this year. Each day there will be songs, games, stories, crafts and refreshmen­ts. On the Friday, parents and friends are invited to join the kids for a barbecue at 11.30am. After the Holiday Club, on Sunday, August 13 at 5.30pm Family Fellowship will start up again. Broxburn Gala Day (26th August 2017) - Parade commences from Wyndford Avenue, Uphall at noon. All participan­ts need to be there no later than 11.30am as the roads will be closed.
