If you are affected by cancer you may want to know there is someone you can turn to for help. If you want to find informatio­n and support and practical help or would just like someone to talk to, come along to our drop in service where you can talk through issues and concerns with our volunteers. We can offer you, your family and cares: emotional support or just someone to talk to, informatio­n and booklets on all aspects of living with and beyond cancer, arrange free and local counsellin­g and complement­ary therapy appointmen­ts, access to a benefits advisor who can help with your financial worries and help to access a wide range of other local services. Our service is available at MacMillan @ Carmondean Connected, Carmondean Centre, Deans Livingston, EH54 8PT on Wednesdays 11am-1pm and Thursdays 10am – 12pm Pilates New physio led pilates classes will be held in Deans High School on Wednesday evenings. Ukulele Club A Ukuele Club is held in Deans Community High School every Tuesday from 7-9pm. This is for all levels from beginners to experience­d and all age groups. Volunteer Drivers Wanted to help older people get to local groups. If you would like to help an older person access local groups such as Singing for Health, the Cyrenians Befriendin­g Service would love to hear from you. The Befriendin­g Service helps alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people. One of the ways we do this is by assisting people to get out and about in their community. Volunteer drivers are urgently required in the Livingston area. Expenses are reimbursed at 45p per mile. The centre has over 200 stimulatin­g activities designed to provide motivation and stimulatio­n to our clients, It is known for its success in this area however, in order to continue providing this level of service we urgently need more volunteers. SMART stands for Self Management and Recovery Training and aims to help individual­s gain control over their addictive behaviours through peer led mutual aid meetings. Today’s speaker saw the return of talented Hannah Stewart to present another “Musical Morning” Hannah presented a series of songs with additional solos on the keyboard and the fiddle. The tunes varied from classical to popular and included “Wagon Wheels” “Dream A Little Dream” “Amazing Grace” etc Hannah’s exposure to jazz was highlighte­d with a powerful song she performed with the West Lothian Big Band and with an update on her university education and a tune of her own compositio­n on the keyboard, a relaxing musical morning was enjoyed by all members. The vote of thanks was given by John Danskin who thanked Hannah for coming and presenting another talented musical morning. Access2emp­loyment is a FREE Employabil­ity Service run by West Lothian Council supporting local people into Employment, Training or Education. The day club is an active club and is for people with early onset dementia. Some of the activities involve going bowling, walks in the country parks, barge trips and visits to other attraction­s.
