Shoppers focus on summer styles

Six lucky centre visitors scoop gift cards

- Staff reporter

From statement sleeves and cold-shoulder tops to extravagant embroidery and classic retro denim – shoppers at The Centre, Livingston certainly have their fingers on the pulse of the hottest high summer trends.

When the Street Style Squad visited The Centre earlier this month, shoppers were indulging in a host of style-savvy buys including chic sandals, romantic ruffled maxi skirts, sultry summer fragrances and vibrant patterned clutches, guaranteed to add a sartorial edge to any outfit.

This month, six stylish shoppers were selected to share their fabulous new purchases in return for a Gift Card worth £25, courtesy of The Centre, which can be used in over 80 stores and all restaurants.

All six pictures will appear on ‘Shop The Centre’ Facebook page on Thursday, August 24 and the picture which receives the most likes over a period of 48 hours will receive another £100 Gift Card from The Centre.

The first person to catch our Style Squad’s eye was chic shopper Claire Harrison (22) from Biggar.

Claire had been for a job interview earlier that day and had just found out that she’d got the job. To celebrate, Claire and her mum were enjoying a shopping trip, picking up a few stylish wardrobe additions from shops in The Centre. Claire said: “I couldn’t resist getting this shirt – it was on offer for £20 so a real bargain - the lace-up detailing dresses it up a little and makes it a flattering shape. I also managed to find great pair of ripped skinny jeans which go perfectly with the shirt.”

Next up on our style radar was Joy Harrison, a 52-year-old curtain maker from Biggar. Joy said: “I bought these shoes in navy as well as silver – they’re really comfortable and perfect with jeans. Next is one of my favourite stores – I’ve shopped there since the eighties and I always find something that I like.”

The Street Style Squad couldn’t resist checking out the purchases of Chanel Sneddon ( 18) from Fauldhouse. Chanel is a swimmer for Scotland and recently won a bronze medal at the British Championships.

She’s also starting a degree in psychology at Stirling University so had called in to The Centre to get some student essentials including cute hangers for her wardrobe. Chanel said: “My sister and I were browsing the shops when I saw a really nice cross body bag in New Look, it’s practical with a gold chain shoulder strap and I really like the floral embroidery detailing.”

Our next shopper with a passion for fashion was Monique Sneddon (21) from Fauldhouse. Monique is a Student Nurse and was enjoying a shopping trip with her sister when she was stopped by the Street Style Squad.

Monique said: “I came to The Centre to spend a gift card that I got for my birthday. I ended up getting some make-up as well as this top from Topshop. I really like the simplicity of the stripes and the cut away shoulders, plus it will go nicely with blue or white jeans – perfect for summer.”

The next stylish shopper was Katie Teece ( 23) from Stokeon-Trent. Katie was visiting her grandparents in Mid Calder when they popped in to The Centre for a spot of retail therapy.

Katie had just bought a new pair of trainers by Converse. “I love how unusual the trainers are, with the sole matching the colour of the shoe. I’ve had Converse trainers before and I know how comfortable they are – they’re great for casual wear with a simple pair of skinny jeans.”

The final lucky shopper was Jennifer Teece, a 27- year- old graphic designer, from Stoke-onTrent. Jennifer was browsing the shops with her sister Katie when a vintage style denim jacket from Topshop caught her eye.

Jennifer said: “I really like the fit of the jacket – it would be great with a tea dress or with basic black denim. We’ve not been in The Centre that long so we’re going to check out a few more shops before we stop for coffee and cake.”

Ashley Bisland, deputy centre director at The Centre, said: “It’s great to see shoppers visiting The Centre for a fun, family day out and treating themselves to a fantastic selection of stylish wardrobe updates at the same time. We hope that the gift cards will help our six lucky shoppers enjoy another successful shopping trip sometime soon.”
