Livi fall to East League opener loss

- Callum Carson

Livingston fell to a 40-19 loss at Hawick Harlequins as their life in East League Division One got off to a poor start.

The hosts opened up a lead with a pair of penalties in the early stages before extending their advantage with a try after some slick passing along the backs.

Quins were proving too strong and would add two more tries, the second of which was a delightful score from Gavin Douglas who pierced the Livi defence after collecting the ball in his own half.

That try made it 25-0 to the hosts before Livingston got themselves on the board as Gary Wilson bundled over the line.

Full- back Dean Edwards added the two points before a penalty for Hawick made it 28-7 to the home side at the break.

Livi held their own in the second half and appeared to have scored but the ref ruled that Marius Tamosaitis was held up.

He wasn’t to be denied minutes later as he barged between the posts, however, Hawick had earlier grabbed their fourth try. Edwards then notched the try of the game, stealing possession 10m from his own posts and evading the defenders to score in the corner.

Quins would have the final say when they scored in the closing stages to seal the win.

Livi welcome Portobello to Almond Park on Saturday, kickoff is 3pm.
