Mixed day for youth teams

-

Livingston’s youth teams travelled to Dumfries to take on the Saints to start off Scottish Rugby’s Mitsubishi Gallant Conference.

The under-13s came up against a very good side and battled hard in defeat with coaches praising their tackling and effort during the contest.

There were mixed fortunes for the under-14s and under-15s with the younger age group sealing a very comfortable 29-3 win while the under-15 side lost out 51-12.

Under-14 manager Sharon Day said:“The boys played a physical and slightly scrappy game in the first half but picked up the pace after the break and passed the ball wide resulting in some great rugby in the second half.”

Aaron Steel, Adam Dandie, Joshua Mora and Finlay Anderson all scored tries with Jamie Pollock adding four conversions in a fine display.

The newly formed under-15 side took on a well established Dumfries side and earned the praise of coach Iain MacAualy despite the loss.

He said:“Watching all we’ve been working hard and seeing it fall into place and seeing the team get better and better was fantastic.”

The under-16s sealed a dramatic victory right at the death as Ewan Steel touched down to give Livi a 20-15 victory.

That was Steel’s second try of the contest, with Andrew Murchison and Andrew Brown also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Livingston RFC are looking for players, in particular at P7, under-15 and under-16 levels.

Taster sessions are run at Almond Park on Wednesday nights for anyone interested in joining the club. All players are welcome.
