KEEN MIND & A WEE DRAM

Anne reveals secrets to long life at 101st birthday party

- Debbie Hall

A woman celebrating her 101st birthday has put her long life down to having a keen mind, a healthy appetite and enjoying a wee dram.

Linlithgow woman and travel enthusiast Anne Cummings, a tenant at Bield’s West Port development, is an avowed foodie and isn’t afraid to tuck in.

When asked her secret to long life, Anne said: “My secret is taking an interest in everything around me. I also like to joke to keep my spirits up.

“I’m not a fussy eater either – it’s good to have a bit of an appetite to keep you going and I’m not averse to the odd sherry or dram to wash it down.”

Growing up in Grangemouth where she worked in a local drapers shop, Anne has always been eager to see the world, travelling from country to country, filling her life with laughter and fun.

In the 80s, she travelled around Europe visiting Norway’s fjords, Germany, Holland and London.

She also went to Chicago where she visited her children and sister, Elizabeth.

In 1966, Anne went on to work for Bonsoir, a luxury nightwear company where she made pyjamas.

Her knack for crafting beautiful things has stayed with her and she frequently knits dolls and hats for premature babies.

Christine Donnelly, resource manager at Bield West Port, said, “Anne is such a joy to be around.”

Anne spent her big day enjoying a special tea hosted by her son Norman when she celebrated her marvellous achievement with family and friends.
