the students also featured in a film commissioned by transport scotland about the new bridge.

A West Lothian primary school was invited to attend the official opening of the Queensferry Crossing after writing a song about the new bridge.

Pupils from Bankton Primary School, Dedridge, also feature in a film about the official opening of Queensferry Crossing with some lucky pupils getting to meet the Queen.

Primary four and primary five pupils wrote the song with music teacher Yvonne Drummond and performed the song at the Queensferry Crossing Visitor Centre.

The centre then contacted T ra ns p o r t Sc ot l a n d wh o commissioned a film starring the pupils and their song which was filmed in North Queensferry.

Jacqueline Stewart, head teacher at Bankton Primary, said: “The children were very excited to find that they would be filmed on location in North Queensferry and also wearing hard hats and high viz vests in a white limbo studio in Houston industrial Estate.

“They and their teachers worked very hard to satisfy the deadlines, having great fun in the process.”

The children were even more excited when they received an invitation to the official opening ceremony of the bridge.

Ms Stewart said: “Bankton was the only West Lothian school to be involved in this event - their behaviour was superb and a team of four pupils, chosen by Queensferry Crossing staff were able to stand in front of the barriers.

“Zoe Black, Brooke Lockhart, Carlos Pattugalon and Jamie Ure spoke to Nicola Sturgeon, Prince Phillip and presented the Queen with a posy in school colours, specially created by Williamson’s Florist in Broxburn. The Queen told the children the colours of the flowers were very pretty, matching their school uniform.”

The rest of the school watched the film on a live stream and were able to see the Queen speak with the pupils.
