The top best man

John’s wedding title

- Sean O’Neil

A Bathgate man has been named the best Best Man in Scotland and could soon be crowned Britain’s best as well.

John Paterson has been named the country’s best Best Man by Red7, a stag and hen travel expert, for the effort he put into groom Scott Crook’s big day - and the stag parties leading up to it.

John arranged not one but two stag dos to help celebrate his friends upcoming nuptials.

The first was a trip to Prague and then he organised an event in Glasgow for those that couldn’t make it overseas.

The Prague half of the stag do saw John, Scott and everyone else who had made the journey rub shoulders with Hollywood funny man Paul Rudd in the Czech capital.

The Red7 judges said they were looking for a Best Man who showed himself to have a host of gentlemanly qualities, from diplomacy to loyalty, as well as a fun and entertaining edge, which John displayed with his stag party heroics.

In addition to this he was a calm and organised presence on the big day, minimising the groom’s nerves and securing his title as Scotland’s best Best Man.

Scott agreed with the judges decision.

He said his friend carried out his duties well.

Scott said: “John was spot on and did a stellar job.

“He was quite simply the best. Well done that man.”

Ian Lucas, founder of Red7 commented: “Today’s Best Man has a big job, but John and his fellow finalists have shown that they really made the role their own.

“Whittling down the entries was a tough task. John has done Scotland proud and set a fine example of what a Best Man should be.

“I wish him the best of luck for the final of the competition.”

The seven finalists from throughout the UK will now attend a luxury event in Brighton on Friday, September 22, where Britain’s best Best Man will be crowned.
