Still some summer fun to be had outdoors

Findlay will not follow Kezia’s footsteps

- Debbie Hall

Labour’s Lothian MSP Neil Findlay, who is based in West Calder, will not be running for the Scottish Labour leadership following Kezia Dugdale’s shock resignation.

Findlay, an ally of Jeremy Corbyn in Scotland, was widely believed to have a chance at the leadership but has moved quickly to rule himself out.

Speaking last week, the Lothian MSP said:“I will not be putting put my name forward in this election.

“I wish Kezia and those who may seek to succeed her the very best for the future and I look forward to Parliament returning next week so I can work with my colleagues to hold the SNP to account for their appalling mishandling of our public services, expose the Tories for their shambolic handling of the Brexit process and work towards returning Labour government’s at Holyrood and Westminster that works for the many not the few.” Summer might be almost over but that doesn’t have to stop us getting out and enjoying what West Lothian has to offer.

Walks are held all over the county and are designed to suit all ages and abilities.

Groups meet the length and breadth of the county, including in Winchburgh, meeting at the Tally Ho carpark on Thursdays and Saturdays.

In Bathgate, a group meets on Mondays and in Craigshill, walkers meet on Tuesdays.

On the same day walkers meet in Knightsridge and in Armadale.

And on Wednesdays in Linlithgow, a group meets outside Tesco and are invited to join the group for a coffee after the walk.

Also on Wednesday evenings, a group meets at the Livingston Inn Carpark and the route of this walk will be decided on the night.

A spokesperson for organisers, the Health Improvement Team said: “Our groups are friendly and welcoming and the trained walk leaders will support new walkers to build up their pace and distance.

“You can meet new friends, discover new walks and improve your fitness. The walk will last about 60 minutes and you will be able to walk at your own pace. Sorry, but dogs are not allowed.
