Unison pay win

-

Union bosses have claimed victory in securing a better pay deal for council workers.

UNISON West Lothian said it has successfully campaigned to ensure workers are compensated for any loss of pay while taking annual leave after councillors agreed to implement COSLA holiday pay guidance.

West Lothian was one of only two councils who has yet to adopt the holiday pay calculation guidance issued by CoSLA in March 2015.

“We are delighted to hear the Council have agreed to implement the CoSLA guidance on holiday pay following pressure from UNISON West Lothian,” said branch secretary Andy Anderson

“This is a significant victory for West Lothian council workers who regularly work overtime or have shift allowance as they will receive an 8.3 per cent rate on top of their holiday pay.

“Trade union representatives will sit down with council management to negotiate implementation, along with any backdating arrangements.

West Lothian Council leader, Councillor Lawrence Fitzpatrick, said: “West Lothian Council employees will receive the 8.3% holiday pay rate recommended by CoSLA.”
