Pupils given train­ing to sup­port autis­tic peers

Pupils from three West Loth­ian sec­ondary schools have been learn­ing how to sup­port young­sters with autism. The ASD Am­bas­sadors train­ing event took place at How­den Park Cen­tre re­cently for 30 S5 and S6 pupils at Brox­burn Acad­emy, In­veral­mond Com­mu­nity High School and St Kentigern’s Acad­emy. The train­ing, which is a first for West Loth­ian, showed stu­dents how they can sup­port pupils with autism in their school and cov­ered a va­ri­ety of ar­eas re­lat­ing to how the autis­tic young­ster ex­pe­ri­ences their learn­ing en­vi­ron­ment how they can be helped if they are ex­pe­ri­enc­ing dif­fi­cul­ties.
