Land for Jencks art piece

West Lothian Council’s Executive Committee has approved the community asset transfer of land to Kirknewton Community Developmen­t Trust (KCDT) which will be used to create a gateway art feature to the village.

The trust submitted an applicatio­n for the transfer of land at Camps in Kirknewton which outlined proposals to create a gateway art feature by the renowned artist Charles Jencks.

They have in addition secured funding from the councils Vi l l a g e Improvemen­t and Public Art funds and will manage the delivery of the project.

The land will extend the ownership of land previously transferre­d to KCDT for affordable housing.

Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatric­k commented: “The council is pleased to confirm approval of the community asset transfer of land at Camps, Kirknewton to the KCDT for nil considerat­ion. The transfer will enable the art project by Charles Jencks to proceed, which will raise the profile of Kirknewton and provide wider benefits.”
