Land for Jencks art piece

West Loth­ian Coun­cil’s Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee has ap­proved the com­mu­nity as­set trans­fer of land to Kirknew­ton Com­mu­nity De­vel­op­ment Trust (KCDT) which will be used to cre­ate a gate­way art fea­ture to the vil­lage.

The trust sub­mit­ted an ap­pli­ca­tion for the trans­fer of land at Camps in Kirknew­ton which out­lined pro­pos­als to cre­ate a gate­way art fea­ture by the renowned artist Charles Jencks.

They have in ad­di­tion se­cured fund­ing from the coun­cils Vi l l a g e Im­prove­ment and Public Art funds and will man­age the de­liv­ery of the project.

The land will ex­tend the own­er­ship of land pre­vi­ously trans­ferred to KCDT for af­ford­able hous­ing.

Leader of West Loth­ian Coun­cil Lawrence Fitz­patrick com­mented: “The coun­cil is pleased to con­firm ap­proval of the com­mu­nity as­set trans­fer of land at Camps, Kirknew­ton to the KCDT for nil con­sid­er­a­tion. The trans­fer will en­able the art project by Charles Jencks to pro­ceed, which will raise the pro­file of Kirknew­ton and pro­vide wider ben­e­fits.”
