Anyone for tennis after £37k re-vamp?

Two Livingston tennis courts have been given a new lease of life to encourage more people to take part in the sport.

Lady well Tennis Courts have undergone a £37,000 refurbishm­ent to guarantee excellent outdoor facilities in the area for years to come.

The old blaise surface court s, which were suffering from root damage, have been upgraded with new porous painted macadam surfaces suitable for all weathers.

West Lothian Council worked in partnershi­p with Sportscotl­and, Tennis Scotland and Land Trust to deliver the project.

Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatric­k, officially opened the new facility recently. He was joined by pupils from nearby Harrysmuir Primary School and Inveralmon­d Community High School for a special coached tennis session, along with representa­tives from community groups and all the partner organisati­ons involved.

Councillor Fitzpatric­k said: “The re- opening of Ladywell Tennis Courts marks a key day for local schools and the community.

“We are confident that the upgraded facilities will help provide more opportunit­ies for young people and local residents of all ages to take part in tennis throughout the year, encouragin­g everyone to stay healthy and keep active.

“Working in partnershi­p with our local communitie­s and external funders, we aim to continue to invest in local facilities and deliver first class public services to the residents of West Lothian.”

Andrew Baptie from Sportscotl­and added: “Sportscotl­and are delighted to recognise the impact that the Scottish Government’s Active places fund is making to local communitie­s in providing more opportunit­ies for people to participat­e in sport.”

Harrysmuir Primary were also presented with their Gold School Sport Award Status in recognitio­n of their commitment to high quality PE, physical activity and sport.

And rew Bap tie continued: “The acknowledg­ement of Harrysmuir’s Gold Award status showcases a great example of partnershi­p working between the school and wider community, which assists in strengthen­ing the pathway between school and community participat­ion.”

Harrysmuir headteache­r Susan MacKenzie said: “The whole school is delighted to receive the Gold Sport School Sport award for a second time. This award recognises all the hard work by staff and pupils over the year and is a foundation for the health and wellbeing opportunit­ies offered within the school.”
