Broxburn Athletic strolled into the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup with a comfortable win.

The Burn found themselves two goals to the good within 14 minutes to put any hopes of a giant-killing to bed.

United’s day got off to a horrible start as Neil Hay turned the ball into his own net before Darren Gribben made it two as he fired home a penalty.

The game proceeded to be almost entirely one-way traffic with Nicholas Locke and Zander Miller both going close before Gribben put the game to bed just before half-time as he breezed past three defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. But the North Region side refused to give in after the break and to their credit a fine defensive saw the deficit remain at three entering the final 10 minutes.

However, that’s when Broxburn’s energy and class showed with three goals coming in the closing stages.

Anderson rattled home a free-kick after he was fouled on the edge of the box before netting his second of the game a few minutes later when clean through on goal.

Miller was rewarded for his fine efforts over the piece with a goal and he headed home Anderson’s cross at the back post to wrap things up and seal an emphatic victory for the Albyn Park side.
