West Lothian Council has launched a campaign to spread some cheer this Christmas.

the Festive Fiver scheme aims to provide every adult who accesses a food bank in West Lothian over the festive period with a goodie bag filled with toiletries.

Local food banks are currently looking for donations for both men and women including items such as razors, shaving gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hygiene products for women and shower gel.

All donations can be handed in at West Lothian Civic Centre, Livingston; strathbrock partnership Centre, Broxburn; Bathgate partnership Centre; Whitburn Community Centre; Armadale Community Centre and Fauldhouse partnership Centre.

the campaign has been launched as part of West Lothian Council’s seventh annual Money Week, which seeks to raise awareness of poverty and encourage discussion about the important issues related to poverty in the local area.

Executive councillor for voluntary organisations Kirsteen sullivan said:“Money Week offers an opportunity to focus on important local issues surrounding poverty and highlights the need for continued community support in such areas.

“West Lothian Council continues to combat poverty in our local communities and has already pledged over £350,000 towards mitigating the impact of poverty in the West Lothian, £70,000 of which has gone directly to Foodbanks and also the efforts to reduce food insecurity.”
