Attack at car is probed

Police in West Lothian have launched an investigat­ion after a man attempted to pull a woman from her car in Bathgate.

The incident occurred at around 7.50am last Wednesday ( October 11) on Mill Road when a male approached a blue Peugeot 206 and attempted to pull the 51-year-old woman from the driver’s seat.

The at t e m p t w a s unsuccessf­ul and the man subsequent­ly ran off in the direction of Cochrane Street. The woman sustained a minor arm injury, however this did not require hospital treatment.

Police are n ow investigat­ing and appealing for witnesses. The suspect is described as a white man with a slim build. He is believed to be around five feet six to five feet seven in height, in his 30s with dark hair that has been shaved. He is believed to have been wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark coloured bottoms at the time of the attack. He also speaks with a foreign accent.

Officers are still establishi­ng the full circumstan­ces of the incident , which they consider to be either an attempted assault or an attempt to steal the woman’s car. Detective Constable Lynn Myles of Livingston CID said: “This was a frightenin­g attack which has left the victim very upset.
