Bus is the perfect wedding service

Steve catches the No. 28 to ceremony

- Sean O’Neil

A wedding party caused surprise for morning commuters after the groom and his men decided to catch a bus to the ceremony.

Steven Smith (28) from Kirknewton, decided the bus was just the ticket to transport him and his groom’s party to St Mary’s Church in Dalmahoy where he was to marry his American sweetheart Aimee Davis.

Steven, his brother Rory and seven friends – all dressed in formal Highland wear - hopped on the First West Lothian Service 28 bus to head to the church, much to the delight of the driver and passengers.

Steven met Nashville native Aimee three years ago and the pair, who now live in Orlando, Florida, decided to get hitched in Scotland.

It was a truly transatlantic affair as many of Aimee’s friends and family travelled over to attend the ceremony - though it was perhaps Steven’s short journey to the church that caused the most surprise.

Elaine Smith, Steven’s mum, said: “We had been having a family chat about the wedding arrangements and my husband Richard and I said: ‘Why don’t you just get the bus?’ And Steven said: ‘ Yes, why not. That would pretty cool.

“The bus stop is just at the back of the house and the service stops in Dalmahoy. We use the bus quite regularly as a family, it’s reliable and a good service so it seemed the most natural thing to do.”

Andrew Jarvis, managing director of First in Scotland, said: “We’re delighted Steven and his party chose to travel to the church by bus and we’re thrilled to have been invited to play a part in Steven and Aimee’s big day. We wish them every happiness for the future.”
