Battling Livi fall short of upset

-

Livingston fell just short in an entertaining clash away to the league leaders.

Despite the defeat, it was a spirited performance from the visitors, who showed they could compete against the league’s best side.

The hosts got the ball rolling as winger Charlie Elms knocked over a penalty for the first points of the game, although that was matched shortly after by Livi’s Kerr Anderson.

The visitors almost scored the game’s first try after the restart but a handling error cost them.

North Berwick got themselves 10-3 in front at the break thanks to a well-worked try that was finished off by Liam West, with the conversion being added.

Livi defended well to keep the deficit at seven points at half-time after a high tackle brought about a yellow card.

The visitors had the best of the territory in the early stages of the second half but were unable to capitalise on it.

That would prove crucial as a penalty for the home side was followed by their second try, with the missed conversion making the score 18-3 to North Berwick.

Having produced a brilliant comeback the previous week, there was another battling display from Livi as they were determined to get back into the clash.

The home side, meanwhile, were determine to see the game out and ensure they retained their place at the top of the table.

Livi were finally rewarded for their efforts with a try as Geoff Caldwell stretched to touch the ball over the line in the corner. The missed conversion made it 18-8 but that was as close as they were able to get in their comeback bid.

The Almond Park side host Duns on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
